The Dickson Fire Department is a professional and well-trained group of men and women dedicated to the enormous duties they are sworn to uphold. The department is here to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Dickson and all the others that are visiting Dickson. The Fire Department also protects property and citizens outside the city limits with its Rural Fire Service.

The mission of the Dickson Fire Department is to provide a fire-safe community by developing a population of fire-safety conscious citizens. We will serve these citizens in emergency and non-emergency situations with a well trained, dedicated, and professional staff. In the event of manmade or natural disasters, our priorities are life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation.

The Fire Marshal is responsible for arson investigation and fire codes enforcement. Prior to the beginning of any construction project the Fire Marshal inspects and approves all plans. Fire prevention and life safety begins at this stage. On all fires, a cause for the fire has to be determined. If the cause is not obvious, the Fire Marshal must determine the cause. If it is determined to be arson, the Fire Marshal will attempt to identify the arsonist and arrest him/her.

The City of Dickson Fire Department is committed to the development and implementation of comprehensive proactive programs and procedures, which anticipate, recognize and assess fire risks and which initiate actions to remove or reduce those fire risks.
Although Fire Prevention is a fundamental responsibility of every departmental employee, the Fire Prevention Unit is specifically charged with the responsibilities of planning and coordinating Fire Prevention programs to inform, educate and to assist citizens in becoming more Fire Prevention/Fire Reduction oriented.
The City of Dickson Fire Department places an emphasis on Fire Prevention programs and encourages citizen participation, taking and active role in helping to reduce crime. This concept in enhanced by promoting citizens involvement through fire prevention programs.

The Fire Suppression division of the D.F.D. is the largest division in the department, made up of 31 Fire Fighters who are responsible for 24-hour 7-day a week coverage of the city. Fire Suppression is made up of 3 shifts with each shift commanded by a captain. Each shift is on duty for 24 hours at a time. There are 2 fire stations with each station covering a separate zone in the city. In addition to fire calls, suppression runs First Responder calls for emergency medical situations.

Under the direction of a Captain it is the intent of the City of Dickson Fire Department Training Division to provide employees with training established by legal mandate or determined by the department to be necessary. The Training Division is responsible for the development, coordination, and presentation of all training within the department.
The goals of the Dickson Fire Department training program are:
Training is a continual never-ending process involving all members of the Dickson Fire Department. The training function is the responsibility of the Training Division Captain. These responsibilities include: training both sworn and civilian personnel, developing training programs, notifying personnel of available training, selecting instructors and supervising the field training program just to name a few.
The City of Dickson Fire Department’s Hazardous Material Team is made up of members who are from every division in the department. Commanded by Lt. David Potts, the team responds to any scene that involves hazardous material. The team is a multi-agency team that is specially trained to deal with situations that would over whelm normal response units.
