When the City of Dickson awarded its first cable television franchise in 1987, the agreement included the dedication of a Public-Educational-Governmental (PEG) Channel. The council decided to open this channel to locally produced programming and created the Community Access Programming Committee to coordinate the schedule. The five-member citizen committee was first chaired by Chris Norman, followed by Randy Sullivan and now Mark Denney. The committee is responsible for scheduling the programs that air on Channel 19 of the Comcast cable television system that serves most of Dickson County.
The Community Access Channel also is available under Community Access Channels on select AT&T U-Verse systems in Middle Tennessee. According to its bylaws, the Community Access Channel will air locally produced, non-commercial programs of community interest at no charge (see bylaws below). Programs must be presented ready-to-air on DVDs or submitted digitally. Airtime is granted monthly for the first three months and beginning with the fourth month will be placed in the channel’s six-month rotation to be renewed in June and December of each year. An application and signed contract (see below) must be submitted for the committee’s meeting in the month prior to the desired airtime. The channel has featured numerous church services and programs, local events, sports, educational programming, local government meetings and much more (see monthly schedule below).
